Bond distance is the compromise distance between two atoms. Explain with reason?

When two atoms come close to make a bond then their attraction increases and potential energy decreases. At specific distance, attraction become maximum and P.E become minimum, so bond formation takes place. It is the compromise distance between two atoms.
When atom further come closer than attraction become minimum and P.E become maximum. Then repulsion take place between two atoms and bond formation does not take place. Hence, bond distance is compromise distance between two atoms.
